What Is Your Vision

Happy New Year! Welcome, 2017. It is time to make our mark. So the topic everyone is talking about these days is #goals. Goals, vision and even vision boards. What do you see for your life, your business, your future? I was listening to an NPR podcast last week and there were a few guys who had just published a book called Design Your Life. I thought the concept was a bit generic, as we have had a ton of people talk about the concept of designing our lives for many years now. I first heard about Life Style design when Tim Ferris wrote 4 hour work week.

I believe if you love what you do, you won’t mind how many hours you work; because it won’t feel like work. It will feel like making money to do what you love.

As a designer, I do agree with Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, authors of Design Your Life; We can design our lives and decide who we want to live them, vs taking the traditional routes of most; however because these guys are engineers they make the concept seem very technical, and it does not have to be. I have not read their book yet, but I plan to this spring. What I will say is that when it comes to design, it is not that difficult, I like to think, the process of design should be something that is almost intuitive and experiment like. There are technical concepts to design and color theory etc, but when it comes to designing anything, including our lives and the vision we have for our self, it is almost like the guess and check method we use in math. Some things, you really don’t know for sure until you try them out.

I absolutely love vision boards, and if you are a fan of Pinterest, that is basically a vision board in a nutshell. It is a ton of fun and quite addictive. You can make a vision board for anything. In fact, Relationship expert Natasha McCrea over at Love CEO Institute is facilitating a vision board workshop this month.
